While searching for new ideas on how to tackle everyday challenges on becoming more sustainable as a business, we came through an interesting event at Boston College. A public seminar and dialog on sustainability practices with business leaders, community members and scholars. The event included panelists from Staples, Harvard University, Genzyme Corporation, Merida Meridian, The United Illuminating Company and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

A public conversation on Sustainability: Business, the Environment & Social Justice
Questions on what sustainability means in contexts like the environment, commerce and social justice were discussed; as well as what the business perspective is regarding the sustainability challenges and the power they have in becoming true leaders for change. It was interesting to hear different perspectives and voices from different sources. It was inspiring to see everyone engaged in the same conversation.
As a small business we have already started to work on what we’ve seen we can improve; we are convinced that we first need to focus on our internal practices. Now the challenge is to get all our employees on board and excited to work towards that goal.
We also know how important it is to let our customers participate in this process. After all, we are all part of the same community and everything we do will impact all of us. That’s why we’d like to hear your opinions, thoughts, comments and suggestions on how Economy Hardware can become a more sustainable business and help the community work towards that same goal.
Live Music like no other
Have you found yourself with some spare time on a Saturday afternoon? Are you thinking about catching up with all those pending DIY projects from last year? How about coming to Economy Hardware to get your supplies and enjoying some great music while you walk through the aisles searching for what will be your next work of art?
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, those of you who had the chance to enjoy our ‘Holiday Music Series’ during the month of December will know what we are talking about. An unexpected but so perfect combination under the same roof: Music & Hardware. Due to the great success we had on our last series, we decided to keep bringing live music to our stores.
We’ll be starting with Boston until the end of winter and then move the series to the other stores. So come on and join us this and every Saturday for a delightful afternoon around live acoustic music performed by local artists. We would love to have you!
