Hello!

And welcome to the new Economy Hardware and CityLivingStores.com Blog!

This is where we will update you on all the latest happenings at the Economy Hardware stores.  Not to mention all the great ways to save money,  project ideas, decorating tips, how-to’s, etc. we’ll be posting in the future!

To kick things off, here’s a quick refresher course in the history of Economy Hardware:

Founded in 1948 by Herb & Harriet Friedman, Economy Hardware has served the Downtown Boston community for over 60 years. At 219 Mass Ave, the Boston store was the first of 4 stores to be opened under Herb’s ownership. The second Economy Hardware opened in 1990 at 438 Mass Ave in Central Square Cambridge, only 1.5 miles down the road! Three years later Herb retired from the business and  left it to his son, Larry, to carry on. Since then we have opened 2 more stores, one in Brookline and one in Allston, though unfortunately we recently had to say goodbye to our Allston location, as it’s doors have closed for good.

We’ve continued to expand our product lines to include a wide selection of housewares, furniture, and lighting making us more of a “one-stop-shop” than a stereotypical hardware store. On top of this, two of our locations (Cambridge and Brookline) now include our City Kitchens showrooms and design services, providing custom kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and more.

Economy Hardware joined the World community with the launching of our website: CityLivingStores.com in 2006. Now, with the power of the web, people from all over can get to know our unique family.
